I was born and raised in Provence,in a small village called Saint-Paul-de-Vence, tucked between the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea. Since 2016, I have had the privilege and joy to live in Boulder, Colorado with my husband, our two cats and two dogs, and now two children.
I have studied several languagesthroughout my life, including German, Spanish, Classical Arabic, Latin and Ancient Greek. All have reinforced my appreciation for grammar, linguistics, and their role in the use of language as both a communication tool and an art. When we learn a new language, indeed, we really learn two : the foreign one, and our native one. Because just as there are no true synonyms, there are no true translations, so the quest for the right word, the need to balance between la lettre and l'esprit force us to deepen our knowledge of one language as we widen our understanding of the other.
I strive to teach French not only as it is spoken, but as it is written, because France, more than any other country, is a literary nation. French has been the language of many great philosophers and writers. Many had a decisive impact on the politics of their time, and still today, France's collective unconscious is deeply embedded in literature. French is a complex language, which makes it instrumental in expressing very nuanced ideas, as the refinement of one's language allows not only for the expression, but the very conceptualisation of thought.
